There’s a Christmas song that I never quite understood when I was younger. When it first came out in 1991 I couldn’t understand why this would be the theme of a Christmas song. As a kid Christmas is the best part of the year. No school, new toys, you get to see family you haven’t seen in a while what’s not to love. But now I fully understand why this song was written. The Christmas song that to me best describes how you feel working in retail during the Chistmas shopping season is Pearl Jam’s “Let Me Sleep.” I finally get it. I used to look forward to Christmas every year and now I dread it. The crowds, the self absorbed customers, so many people forget that this is supposed to be a happy time of year and it turns into the most stressful time of year. And when it’s over all I want to do is sleep.
