Actually, I recommend…HIGHLY…the Cuisinart mixer. Yes. They do cost a pretty penny. However, it is my opinion that there is not one ounce of cheap metal in their construction. And, that pretty penny is what the store pays, too. I once had the chance to see what the price tag said vs. the price paid to even shelve this solid machine. Not ten dollars profit in difference. Tempted to say it was seven and change…IF THAT.

So much of what’s available today, truly is cheap junk. It’s nice to know that some companies build stuff to outlast you over building today’s model to break down in time for tomorrow’s model to arrive.

Then, there’s those no-name blitz items that sell dirt cheap and probably go to the dirt outside of a week…

Whoops…meant to add another personal experience. In my former retail job, one rather satisfying task was the destruction of returns. Stuff like George Foreman Grills came to me on an almost daily basis. One good whack and they were junkable.

However, I’ve seen one…but probably two Cuisinart stand mixers come through in all those seven years. I’d drop them. I’d hammer them. I’d toss them across the pavement. (Which wasn’t as solid.) In the end, I’d take out the knife and go for their ONLY weakness, the power cord. These things would not dent, crack, fall apart into two or show signs of weakening to the abuse. I solidly claim these mixers to be machines that can operate for multiple generations in a household. Don’t cower under a doorway in an Earthquake. This machine will block that falling beam. Well…maybe not. After all, the table or counter it sits upon is bound to fail under the strain.

The best thing I ever got to throw out and destroy was a glass shelving fixture. Instead of tossing the whole thing down the shoot, I took each individual shelf out tossing it as hard as I could against the back of the compactor and ducking as shattered pieces of glass shot back at me. good times.

Sounds like some ridiculous insurance policy to me — why can’t more companies just give away stuff they’re not going to sell? Through an intermediatery with a liability waiver if need be…
