d’oh! I swear, the customers that do that must have NEVER worked in retail.
it’s as though once they leave their house they lose all sense of decency.
I must be one of the rare ones. Anything I take into the fitting room that I don’t like and I’m not buying goes right back out to the racks they have to put clothes back. Or I hand them to the person who’s at that counter.
Rory, you are a model citizen my friend, definitely one of the few, and I salute you.
I worked at a Macy’s 20 years ago. One of the women watching the women’s dept. fitting room told me about the disgusting things some women did in there. I will spare you the details. I now work at a large bookstore. Some customers stick books back wherever they feel like it, so we find them by accident or when doing section maintenance. The worst was the person who was leaving sex books in the kids’ department. I visualize some child asking, “Mommy, what’s that?” while pointing at a book of “adult entertainment.” OY!
At my store, there’s a fitting room that one couldn’t always open the door on. And, it was always considered “out of order”. Mess ’solved’.
As for misplaced items, it feels like that’s half my daily work. Between all the junk that customers can’t find the effort in returning and items that overnight can’t help themselves in stuffing all over the place, (I mean, just tonight, I removed 20 of the exact same pans from seven neighboring homes. Talk about potentially messing up the inventory check, due in a couple weeks…department manager whipped out a camera for photo proof to what’s going on.) it’s a wonder any other work can even commense.
I would love to sit in the LP office one night and just watch my employees work, or not work. It always amazes me how much they don’t get done that should get done. Some disappear for way too long when taking stuff out to the floor. There are way too many people for me to babysit and they know it and some take advantage.
Ah! Misses, exactly. “Just keep the fitting rooms clean.” Yup. Sure! Even if – and it’s a big IF – the women bring the clothes out of the room, they’ve still tried on WAY over 5 items and it gets draped over the rack, not hung right, they’re not on the hangers right so that all has to be fixed anyways. And it just takes absolutely FOREVER to clean it out.
At the store I work at there are /two/ misses fitting rooms and generally only one person for the entire day to keep both of them clean! Gah! (It’s me a lot of times. *sigh*)
